You’d be a brave and foolhardy soul to attempt a repair on an Apple product yourself. Thankfully, the experts at iFixit have done the dismantling for you, in a recent teardown of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. And while there are numerous changes and upgrades to the new generation of iPhones, those looking for iPhone screen repairs in Melbourne are in luck!
What’s New About The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus
While the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus may look nearly identical to last year’s iPhone 6, there are a number of new features under the hood.
The main new features of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus include:
- Apple’s A9 processor
- A 4.7-inch 1,334×750 pixels Retina HD display with 3D Touch
- 12-megapixel iSight camera that supports 4K video
- A Taptic engine
- 1715 mAh battery, as opposed to the iPhone 6’s 1810 mAh battery
The specs are largely the same for the 6S Plus, except it features a 5.5” display screen and a 2750 mAh battery, down 165 mAh from the iPhone 6 Plus.
The smaller battery size is mostly due to the 3D Touch screen, the iPhone 6S’s most exciting feature. The 3D Touch screen features a sensor that differentiates between a light and heavy touch. A light touch can be used to preview content, known as a “peek”, while a heavier touch reveals the full content, called a “pop”. The new Taptic Engine feature tricks the finger into feeling a vibration or some other sensation, when tapping a certain area of the screen. This technology is also being featured in the new Apple Watches.
While more complicated components can be a cause for concern with Apple products, you don’t need to worry about the iPhone 6S. The screen is still the first part to be removed, making for quick and easy screen repairs. Don’t worry about the battery downgrades, either, as both models still feature the same 14 hours of 3G talk time and 10 day standby charge, thanks to the use of energy efficient silicon.
Consumers must not be too concerned with the upgrades, as both the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus were on track to surpass the initial sales of the iPhone 6, with more than 4 million preorders in the first weekend. This is more than double of the iPhone 5.
